The reality is in this head. Mine. I'm the projector at the planetarium, all the closed little universe visible in the circle of that stage is coming out of my mouth, eyes, and sometimes other orifices also." - Crying Lot of 47.
There was no difference between the behavior of a god and the operations of pure chance. - Gravity's Rainbow

Captain Beefheart And His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica
Coming in at number 58 on Rolling Stones 500 greatest albums of all time. Really? - Number 58 - in front of lets say...: Guns and Roses - Appetite for destruction.
Maybe they did other drugs in the early 70s, but this album does not fall into my personal taste. I've had it laying around for a while, because I really wanted to listen to everything Frank Zappa ever did. I've tried to listen to the album, but alas I still consider it a horrible amalgamation of every experimental rock-jazz album made up till it it's time. It deserves credit, it broke down barriers. And, yes, I know greatest - is not best - but really; it does not seem to me that enough effort was put into this album, in a strict recording and production sense to define it as greatest. It sounds like they just strummed their instruments and gave Frank Zappa free reign over production for a couple of days.. So, music critics: Get your head out of your asses and don't be pretentious. Referring to Captain Beefheart And His Magic Band is purely meant as a metaphor for distancing yourself from the common rock audience and hurray! - you succeeded.
Lets compare opening tracks, I just chose the opening track because Trout Mask Replica goes on in the same style for 28 tracks.
This is the first track from Trout Mask Replica: Captain Beefheart And His Magic Band - Frownland
And this is the opening track from Appetite for Destruction Guns n' Roses - Welcome to the Jungle
Please notice the subtle differences in production value and quality of the singer. I rest my case.

@marks ...

Proud to announce, that I've been writing/thinking on my thesis until now (it's 6:44). Ah. nothing like a 20 hour workday. Fueled by coffee and great music.. Dream pop spearheaded by Trespassers Williams have dominated my stereo.. Its a step away from exclusively listening to Dark Side of the Moon whilst writing, which is the album that drove me through High School and my bachelor-paper.

.. and listening to Cut/Copy - Feel the Love -These guys do a great job of creating a genre-mashup. It's like a gingerbread house of musical references I like the obvious discofunk and obligatory New Order shout outs. And thank you for once doing a not-so-obnoxious Air, Daft Punk simulation.. oh! - and Rilo Kiley lyrical references. But then you have to listen to their entire album. Which is great. 'Hearts on Fire' is a modern masterpiece.

@marks. Brace for impact; of feeling utterly worthless, uninspiring, unimportant and for people who cannot relate. :-)
